Kim - I can say that I absolutely relate, and I think the video is hilarious!! On a serious note we (as women and consumers) must realize that marketing and advertising products are meant to be taken on an emotional and subconscious level. For example if Olay were to advertise their latest cellulite cream and used an “average” size woman which is I believe a size 12-14 and had her scantily clad rubbing herself with this lotion, not many of us would be running out to get this cream would we? Probably not, subconsciously we are drawn to that perfect body image (as unattainable as it is), and drawn to the subconscious message from the company; “if you buy this cream you too can look like the supermodel in the commercial”. We all know there is no magic cream or pill to take however, we still hold onto the “hope” and are misled over and over again. The subconsious mind is very powerful.
Now since I am the ripe age of 20/14 and I now have a 4 year old mini me named Lauren. I am extra careful of what I say about my body and how I approach being healthy. I do not want my daughter to have the same issues that I struggle with and have struggled with my whole life! I want Lauren to be comfortable in her skin, no matter the size, shape, elasticity etc…..The Bible says we are all beautifully made in His image and that is enough for me. Now i’m not saying burn your bras or throw out your deodorant and make-up or quit working out and eating healthy, i’m saying love you for you right now as you are….. You are beautifully made and there is NO ONE else in this world that is exactly like you! If that’s not empowering I don’t know what is. Instead of comparing ourselves to others (which is like comparing apples to oranges) why not strive to be our best and not their best? Since we know most (if not all) stuff on TV is garbage, photo shopped or enhanced then we should filter that mess out. At the end of the day look at ourselves and say, thank you God for making me. I love every lump, jiggle, freckle and blemish because I am the only____________(your name) in this world. Now put down that heavy duffel bag and embrace yourself for all of your flaws, and weaknesses and strive to be a better you for you and no one else. Let’s face it, it’s hard to be a girl, we need to stick together lol! Thank you for posting this ;P
